Communications: 1) Kim Enger heard from the April judges, Jennifer Woodruff-Moshier and Cynthia Richardson, they were very excited to see the number of SA/PL classes we have at our shows. 2) Southern Idaho wanted to advertise in our show premium. This would ad to the cost of putting out the premium. If they wish to cover these costs, we could accommodate them. We have not heard back. 3) Crystal Baker reported that our in-gate person has quit. We need to hire a new in-gate person for the July and September show. Heidi Hotson will try to contact Lindsey who was our in-gate before. 4) Debbie Rhodes received monies from Kelli Gardner to reserve a number for the year. Sector Director Report: Margaret Brooks reports PTHA is looking at moving SA/PL classes at the world show to several days rather than clumping them in just one day. PTHA has extended deadline on world show premiums. Darrell Bilke set the world show schedule. Constitution/By Law Committee: Dale Smith will resend Kim Enger the draft. Kim has been experiencing computer problems and had been unable to receive the draft. Upon receiving the draft, Kim will send it on to the board for review. Royalty Update: At the April PtHAWW Show a pizza party was held and everyone had a chance to meet our court. Wendy Davidson sent a formal invite for our court to attend the Cascade Pinto Show. Lyndsie Bardsley and Jessica Davidson handed out ribbons at the Albany, OR show. A special thank you to members of our court who helped at our April show. We will in the future have a formal sign-up list to make sure all members of the royal court participate with handing our ribbons on Saturday. Old Business Lets Go April Pinto Show 2007 – We had 219 horses and 1280 goes. In comparison to 2006 we had 232 horses and only 1100 goes at the April show. There was damage done to stalls F3 and E3. The Tacoma Unity charged $50 to the club. Some exhibitors hauling in on Wednesday may still owe for their stalls. Some RV spots hook-ups were not paid for. We need to enforce IF YOU PARK IN RV SPOTS YOU MUST PAY. Ribbons, trophies for the April Show were not done because the person making them broke both her wrists. They still want our business and hope to be able to provide us for the July Big 6. In the future we may want to give options to our exhibitors to get ribbons, tags, monies back, drawing like Albany, OR does. We had six lead liners at the April show. Dale Smith will be stopping by Maple Valley to get lead line trophies. If the breeding stock class cancels we need to provide a little more time to get ready for lead line. Motion made to move lead line class to first class after lunch. Seconded. Discussion. Vote. Motion Passed. New Business: Queens Magazine Ad – Motion made to have club pay for Queens Magazine ad. Seconded. Discussion. Vote. Passed. 2 members did abstain on the vote. Award Recognition – Championship/Legion/Supreme – We will do awards at lunch time and in the evening on Friday and Saturday depending on how many we have. Attention to all getting awards – send your copy of certificate to Margaret Brooks by July 1st, 2007 so she can get awards ordered. By-Laws and Constitution / Show Committee Meeting – Dale Smith will resend by-laws and constitution draft to Kim. He would like to get together with all members of the board to review draft and have a show committee meeting and then present it to the club. Trail-In-Hand class for horses – Margaret Brooks proposed to make trail-in-hand horse class to include only yearlings. She proposed to make it a stakes class and would put up the monies to be paid out as follows $75 for 1st, $50 for 2nd, and $25 for 3rd, 4th and 5th places. This would be for the July and September show. She also would like to move trail-in-hand to Friday afternoon. Motion made to accept Margaret’s proposal. Seconded. Discussion. Vote. 6 – Yes; 7 – No; 8 Abstain. Motion failed. Pony halter – Consideration to split pony halter classes by type at future shows. Motion was made. Seconded. Discussion. Motion withdrawn. This can be revisited at a show committee meeting. Port-A-Potties will cost club $250 for the July show. There will be 6 or 7 provided. Julie Sampson will organize this. Next Meeting: June 12, 2007 Dinner – 6pm Meeting – 7pm Dirty Daves; Olympia, WA Meeting Adjourned. ATTENTION TO ALL 2006 YEAR END AWARD CHECK RECEIVERS. YOU HAVE UNTIL JUNE 30, 2007 TO CASH THEM. AFTER THIS DATE THEY WILL BE NIL AND VOID. ATTENTION: There needs to be a correction made to the July Big 6 show premium. It states there are no ribbons and awards being handed out at the Big 6 July Pinto Show. This is an error. There are ribbons and awards being handed out at the Big 6. There are none being handed out at the September Poorboy Show. Thank you for your time. ALL PINTO SHOW SPANAWAY, WA LETTER FROM YOUR EDITOR: Hi everyone! We now have our first of three PtHAWW shows under our belt. I hope everyone had a great time. Our weather was a little more civil than last April and the competition was tough, a lot of new faces, a lot of really nice equine. That brings me to my topic of conversation. What is it to compete? Resorting back to the Webster’ s Dictionary definition it says, “strive to win”. The Roget’s Thesaurus uses the descriptive words, “contend, strive, rival, cope with.” I often hear people say I don’t want to compete against an opponent because I have a Saddle type and they have a Pleasure type, or I have a Hunter type and they have a Stock type. I recently read an article on judges. They are to judge each type per the movement of that type. That makes sense. Hunter – Displays the carriage and conformation associated with predominantly Thoroughbred horse or Connemara or Welsh pony breeding. Pleasure – Displays the carriage and conformation associated with predominantly Arabian or Morgan horse or Welsh or Shetland pony breeding. Saddle – Gaited horse or pony displaying the carriage, animation and conformation of Saddlebred, Hackney or Tennessee Walking horse or modern style Shetland pony breeding. Stock – Displays the carriage and conformation associated with the Quarter horse of Shetland pony breeding. Having said that, if you have a fantastic Pleasure type, why wouldn’t you want to compete against Saddle type or if you had a fantastic Hunter type why not compete against a Stock type. For the sake of argument lets throw in the class itself. Can your horse compete due to the name of the class? Lets take pleasure driving for example. On page 152 of our 2007 PtHA rule book it states strong trot – balanced lengthening of stride with noticeable difference from normal trot, without excessive speed, loss of form or two beat gait. Stock and Hunter types will move with low strides, with little flexion of knees and hocks. Pleasure type will move with rounded, medium strides, flexed neck with pace higher than withers and will display forward reach and flexion of knees and hocks. Saddle type will move with rounded strides and may display higher strides and may display higher head carriage and action and more knee and hock flexion. So if you have an equine that is up to par for a class defined by the PtHA rulebook, should you compete in that class – you bet you should! And show it proudly! You are being judged by the type of equine you show. So that brings to mind one last detail in competition – the exhibitor themselves. Some shows divide their classes by age, 19 and over, 40 and over, etc. Coming from the Senior Elite Division do I want to compete against a 19 year old? Hah! Now that is a whole new conversation.
